Lets begin by taking 3 minutes to yourself, to nourish yourself.
Breathing deeply, imagine you are on an island. By yourself.
You are lying in the shade, comfortable, a slight breeze washing over you. You can hear the ocean, and your breathing is in tune with the ebb and flow of the waves.
You can see the ocean, and the colour pours into your soul, communicating peace and freedom, life and possibilities.
Spend a few moments like this, breathing and relaxing, relaxing and breathing.
You are one with the rhythm of the sea, one with the Rhythm of Life.
Repeat the Reiki Principle "Just for today I will not worry"
Spend a few moments like this, allowing yourself to delve into your private world, that is perfectly safe and perfectly secure.
This technique can give you a piece of oasis in a busy day.
When you are ready, read on..........
I'd like you to ponder a moment on this question.
Have you given up on pursuing your dreams/wishes? (the 'Life' part of Work-Life Balance)
What were, or are, your dreams and wishes? Write down a list, if this helps you to think.
I ask you to reconsider at least attempting going after your dreams, going after your aspirations. This can help you achieve your own Work-Life Balance. This can help you find happiness.
Do you feel your dreams are pure fantasy, childish and unachievable?
In order to create a Work-Life Balance, take the first step in deciding to no longer compare your dreams to childish dreams.
And here is the reason why.
As adults we seem to think that our roles and responsibilities mean an end to our dreams and an end to this Childfulness.
But children are our best teachers.
Children get the most out of life. They have fun in the rain, they find hours of adventure in a cardboard box. They are constantly learning, growing and developing. They get excited over little things, and always try something new (even if that means they find out that worms don't taste like ice-cream!!)
And yes, I have called it Childfulness. Not childish.
For is it childish to strive for fun when we have been given the capacity and ability for fun?
Is it childish to have new adventures from everyday things?
Is it childish to laugh and giggle and smile?
I want you to realise that it is healthy, and loving to ourselves to honour the excited creative child within us as this adds new and powerful dimensions to our world of "adult". In fact being in touch in our Childfulness can help us fulfil our adult roles with more maturity and ability.
In sleep we are defenceless
In our dreams we are King.
At night we dream, during the day we day-dream. This we all know.
But our dreams tell us a lot about ourselves, and most of us do not take much notice of them.
Day Dreaming.
Day dreaming allows your mind to escape the confines of reality and flirt with amazing possibilities, scenarios and life styles.
Yet again a lot of adults wrongly believe that day dreaming is for the idle, or for children.
Allow yourself to do this and you allow your creativity to be released.
Creativity is breath in your lungs and fire in your belly. If you are reading this and thinking you are not creative, think again.
Begin by taking 5 quiet minutes, undisturbed, and let your mind flow freely, flow to wherever it is it wants to go. Enjoy the journey and notice what you see on the way, and how you feel.
In the silence of our minds, during day dreaming, our soul speaks to us, and tells us how it wants to live.
Listen to that inner knowing, and allow yourself adventures, away from the mundane and the stress. You will come back to earth feeling rejuvenated with youthful curiosity and a willingness to try new things.
Now that's creativity.
Day dreaming also brings with it a sense of relaxation. If your Work-Life Balance is, well, unbalanced, I bet you are feeling stressed, frazzled...........
What harm can it do to day dream, to relax, to find some stress relief?
It can do you harm if you don't do it.
So let your mind dream up whatever wonderful delicious fantasies it so wishes. Feel yourself drifting away on a sea of infinite calm. Stand atop a glorious mountain as your soul flies out, feel that freedom, feel that escape.
Run that marathon and cross the finish line to the cheer and adulation of the crowd.
Race that speed car, feel your cares whizzing by you, left way behind.
I could go on, and on, and on for I am an eternal day dreamer.
Life doesn't always have to be serious and straight.
While on the subject of dreaming
Night Dreaming.
Try keeping a dream journal. As you remember your dreams note them down. Over time you will begin to realize common themes to your dreams.
What message is your sub-conscious trying to tell you? What thoughts, feelings, fears and anxieties are you processing at night?
Your dreams, if you examine them, can help you resolve problems, come up with different choices and solutions. They can help you put your past to rest, and overcome fears.
Consult a dream dictionary (but not the type that try to use dreams to predict the future, these are often quite negative).
Begin to notice your dreams, and what they are trying to tell you and you will begin the process of empowerment.
Below, please find a guided meditation. If you are interested in deepening your relaxation, read over the meditation a couple of times, then find yourself a quiet spot, as you allow your body deepen and relax............
Guided Chakra Meditation
Chakras are energy centres in our body which can become blocked and work less efficiently due to difficulties we experience and due to our hectic lifestyles.
This following meditation focuses on clearing and healing our 7 main chakras.
Sit comfortably in a chair, feet flat on the floor, hands resting in your lap.
Close your eyes and begin to listen to your breathing, feel how it rises and falls, rises and falls
Begin to breath in deeply from your stomach area, up into your chest, feel your rib cage expanding and release.
Release your breath through your nose and feel the power of your breath leaving your body.
As you continue to sit with your eyes closed, breathing deeply, breathing and relaxing, relaxing and breathing, begin to notice how heavy your feet feel as a feeling of relaxation begins to spread into your feet, pushing out any tension and strain.
That feeling of relaxation begins to travel up into your calves, into the cells, into your bones, into your blood, breathing and relaxing, relaxing and breathing.
That feeling of relaxation now continues up your legs into your thighs, pushing out tension and strain, and up into your stomach area, into your organs, your muscles, the very cells of your body.
Feel yourself becoming more and more relaxed as your breathing deepens and the feeling of relaxation reaches up into your chest area, across your shoulders, down your arms, into your hands.
Breathing and healing, healing and breathing the feeling of relaxation continues down your spine, radiating across your back, into your bones, your cells, and your organs......
Continue to breath deeply as that feeling of relaxation travels up your back, into your neck, pushing out tension and strain, and stretching up across the back of your head, over your crown, down over your forehead and over your eyes. The muscles around your eyes relax and the relaxation continues to spread into your nose, down across your face into your cheeks, into your jaws and into the muscles around your mouth.
You feel perfectly relaxed, perfectly safe and perfectly secure. Breathing deeply through out the meditation allows you to remain in control of your newly relaxed body and quiet mind.
Remaining with your eyes closed, begin to focus on your
Base Chakra. (no 1 in diagram)
Imagine a glowing red ball at the base of your spine. This is your Base chakra, which governs your sense of security, and your belief of scarcity or abundance.

Continue until this beautiful red colour reaches all the way above your head.
Repeat the affirmation I feel strong and secure about my place in the world. 3 times
Sacral Chakra. (no 2)
Imagine a glowing orange ball now a few centimeters above your base chakra. This is your sacral chakra, which governs your creativity, expression and sexuality. Focus on the beautiful orange colour of this chakra and, as above, take the time to allow yourself imagine and feel this orange colour rising up from your feet, moving into every part of your body and aura until it reaches above your head.
Repeat the affirmation: I am creative and expressive in my own way. 3 times
Solar Plexus. (no 3)
Imagine a yellow ball at your belly button. This is your solar plexus and this energy centre governs your power of will and control. It is also the seat of our emotions, and often becomes full of the dense negative energy of fear, hurt, anger etc.
Repeat the process mentioned above , imagining this beautiful yellow colour rising up through your body and when it has reached above your head repeat 3 times
I am powerful in my own right.
Repeat the process for the following chakras and their colours and affirmations
Heart Chakra. (no 4)
Our heart chakra governs love, beauty and compassion. It's colour is both green and pink.
Heart chakra affirmation: I love and I am loved.
Throat Chakra (no 5).
Our throat Chakra governs speaking our truth, and all aspects of communicating.
Throat Chakra Affirmation: I speak my truth with assurance and clarity. I communicate my needs.
Third Eye Chakra (no 6).
Our Third Eye Chakra governs our intuition, and also our Spiritual sight.
Third Eye Chakra affirmation: My intuition perfectly guides me.
Crown Chakra(no 7).
Crown Chakra is our link to the Universe, to our Higher self, or God, however it is you would like to view it.
Crown Chakra affirmation: I am connected to a beautiful higher wisdom
Continue to breath deeply, and begin to slowly move your toes, move your feet and legs, slowly and very gently move your head side to side, roll your shoulders back and move your body side to side.
Count from 5 down to 1 and upon reaching 1 open your eyes slowly and in your own good time, feeling refreshed and renewed.
